Greetings and welcome to Friday and the first Friday in August! Zoom – did July speed right by!

 

Thanks to everybody who attended yesterday’s Board of Directors meeting – it was a great turn out. We were all sad to hear that Linda Roy is stepping back from the Board, but she served many three year terms (Paul’s going to research when she joined the EDALC Board) and her wisdom was invaluable. Staff will work with Jason to put together some options for a few in-person meetings this fiscal year.

 

Last weekend, most of the EDALC team (Leslie was on vacation) was in force for the sixth annual Art, Oysters & Brews event on Saturday and Sunday in Toledo. A loud “Huzzah!” for Sarah and Stacie and their “above and beyond” work. This year featured the most vendors and artists in years, some of the best musical acts, a great kids zone, awesome food and brews and well over 1,000 attendees. The City of Toledo is pretty darn happy with EDALC’s work!

 

Here’s our weekly team update:

 

    • Partner Support/Community Support 
      • Art, Oysters & Brews – Sarah helped with post AOB tasks, she put together and sent out the vendor survey, returned some supplies to the City of Toledo, and put things back together at the office. Stacie provided feedback on the vendor survey, created a thank you post on social media using a handful of the photos she took, created a folder for event pics and videos, created a volunteer-interest form for next year, led the team retrospective, and reached out to planning partners to schedule a full event retrospective in September.
      • Central Coast Food Web – Sarah met with Jim King about CCFW’s implementation plan and changes to federal grant conditions in preparation for their executive committee meeting next week.
      • CWEDD Convening – Paul, Sarah, and Stacie brainstormed ideas for the event. Then, Paul met with CWEDD staff and some folks from the Lane COG to lock down some preliminary planning and agenda development for the November 3rd regional event at the Linn County Expo Center. Senator Tim Knopp has been confirmed as the keynote – speaking on the Governor’s new Prosperity Plan.
      • Newport Grant Program – Paul and Sarah met with Alison Robertson and Seth Lenaerts to discuss Lincoln City’s long-standing facade improvement program. Sarah put together some great questions and we also got some great insights (and hindsights) on the program. The team will blend that knowledge into our current draft plan, plus some aspects of a facade grant program that Paul designed earlier for Monmouth Illinois.
  • Economic Mobility
      • Newport Work Session – This Monday, Newport City Council held a work session. One of the key topics was an update and overview of the Economic Mobility work that Allyson has done so far. Paul was in attendance for support. She did a great job and got a thumbs up to develop an innovative “Lease to Locals” program to turn some short-term rental homes into long-term rentals.
  • Entrepreneurship
      • CWIH – Paul met with the leadership team of the Hub to discuss upcoming efforts, events and some challenges with reporting work to Business Oregon (it feels like some of the reporting metrics and priorities are more “fluid” than locked in by the Hub contract).
  • CommEcDev Stacie began gathering materials and preparing an outline for the team’s full review of the program next Thursday. 
  • Core Economic Development Services
  • Major Employers Report – Sarah continued to reach out to local businesses for their employment numbers.
  • Oregon Prospector – Sarah updated expiring Oregon Prospector listings.
  • Community Connecting
  • Take Action Lincoln County – Thank you to all 35 of this year’s Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow Dance Sponsors, who contributed $10,805!!! This broke the total sponsor record, which was the one Leslie wanted to break most. The list will soon be posted on our Past Sponsors page, but you can get a sneak peek here. Leslie and Stacie completed all the mandatory project requirements (short of Leslie attending Pow-Wow), and Leslie fit in a few extra credit prints to help elevate and brag about the 35 sponsors at Pow-Wow. Now, all that’s left is for everyone to enjoy Pow-Wow! See the schedule and more Pow-Wow details here – Leslie hopes to see you there! Stacie posted the final social media calls for sponsors on FB, IG, and LI on Tuesday and updated the site/closed the store Thursday afternoon.
      • Ford Family Foundation Invited Strategic Grant – Last week, EDALC received word that the invited grant to fund part of Leslie’s Community Connector work was approved for a $55,000 award. Paul signed the grant agreement late last week.
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication – Stacie managed social media and completed the Q2 2026 media report.
  • Project Work
  • Admin – Team completed expense reports for May-July which Paul quickly processed.
