Good afternoon and welcome to a crisp Fall Friday!

STILL “Conference Season!” At least for a few more weeks… This week, Leslie attended (and facilitated a workshop) at the Oregon Resilience Summit. Next week is the Coastal Caucus Economic Summit in Seaside. Paul will be representing EDALC – and we still have a few free passes, if anyone wants to attend. In early November, we’ve got the CWEDD “Ignite Economic Vitality Summit” in Albany on November 3rd. Paul will be attending the Oregon Community College Association annual conference from November 4th-6th in Sun River – he’ll still be on Zoom for the November Board of Directors meeting.

Here’s our weekly team update:

    • Partner Support/Community Support
      • Central Coast Food Web – Sarah facilitated the CCFW board meeting Tuesday afternoon.
  • Loan Program Advisory Committee – Sarah attended the Cascades West Loan Program Advisory Committee meeting.
      • OCCC – Next week, the NWCCU will be doing their year-seven accreditation visit to OCCC. Paul, Marshall and Debbie Kilduff will be meeting the NWCCU team in the Board Forum on Monday morning.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
  • DEQ Grant – Stacie created a Web Grants account, created a folder to share information with external partners, worked on a discovery document with outstanding questions about the potential project, and deconstructed the application questions from the NOFO into a collaborative doc/outline in preparation for moving forward. Paul shared Stacie’s work with Mark Farley – shooting for an early next week decision to go/no-go on this grant.
      • O2IH – Paul pushed forward on the formation of the Oregon Ocean Innovation Hub as a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization this week (it’s been living under EDALC previously). O2IH is now incorporated in the state of Oregon, and also has a federal EIN number. Organizational by-laws (modded off of what were put together earlier), conflict of interest policy, vision and mission and initial charitable justification work are done. The first Board meeting is scheduled for early next week when O2IH will approve by-laws and conflict of interest policy, select initial officers and declare the banking policy. As a bonus, O2IH already has an awesome website ready to go (thanks to Stacie!), plus a professionally-created logo. DC law firm Goodwin Proctor will bring the IRS portion of the work to their Pro Bono Committee (fingers crossed on that one!).
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Fail Fest – Stacie reached out to a few more business owners about speaking, sent a reminder to confirmed speakers that their bios + headshots are due next week, began coordinating dessert, ordered speaker gifts, and scheduled a  venue visit. She and Sarah began distributing event flyers in Yachats, Waldport, Toledo, Newport, and Lincoln City. Paul finalized the press release which Stacie sent to media and local partners on Thursday. The event has also been added to OEN and CWIH calendars.
  • Samaritan Commercial Kitchen Market Plan – Stacie and Sarah met with Amy Connor from Samaritan’s Center for Health Education to discuss developing a marketing plan for their test kitchen. This is an ROI deliverable with the aim of increasing the amount of entrepreneurs using the kitchen for events, catering, product development, etc.
  • Youth Entrepreneurship Program – Sarah filmed a YEP interview with Artwork by Sophia, got some b-roll of her art in the Aquarium and Yachats Visitors Center, and began editing. She also scheduled an interview with another local entrepreneur next Monday.
  • Core Economic Development Services
  • 2027 Economic Summit – Paul, Stacie and Sarah met about the location of the summit and reviewed prices and offerings from four different locations in the county. Sarah sent out some follow up questions that came out of that meeting and the final decision should be made in the next week or so. Paul began some brainstorming work and mockups using the 2027 theme for the event image/logo/poster thingie.
  • Major Employers Report – Sarah finished the Major Employers report!! She is clearing up one question with LCSD and then will add the graphic to the website.
  • Community Connecting
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication
      • Sarah put together a draft one-pager about EDALC service offerings because Columbia Bank wanted some resources to share with their clients. Stacie reviewed. The two of them will create a final version in Canva when time allows.
      • Stacie managed social media and began working on the Q3 media report.
