Greetings and welcome to Friday.

 

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks – a coordinated series of four suicide attacks by the extremist group al-Qaeda against the United States. It was one of those seminal moments that was forever etched in the minds and hearts of those old enough to understand the events as they unfolded – an event that showed the worst and the best of humanity.

 

Next Thursday, we’ll be having our day-long off-site team retreat (at Little Whale Cove’s recreation center). It may or may not wrap up with a wine tasting. 🙂

Here’s our team update for the week:

 

    • Partner Support/Community Support 
      • COG – Paul reviewed and recommended funding for a COG business loan to a rural business that has new ownership and is expanding.
      • CWEDD – Paul chaired the September Cascades West Economic Development District full board meeting from the Benton County offices (in a very swanky new building built with Covid funds) on Thursday. The Board heard presentations from the Director of the Eugene Airport (on their expansion plans) and from the Corvallis/Benton County economic developer (Christopher Jacobs) on the challenges of wetland mitigation for commercial site readiness.
      • OCCC – Paul, Sarah and Stacie trekked to Toledo for the ribbon cutting of the OCCC’s Arcadia Center, which will provide vitally-needed OCCC classroom facilities for east county. It was a great turnout.
      • Waldport – Paul met with the Chamber staff at the Treasure Bay Resort to work out stage and wind block placement and access to electrical power for Saturday’s Beach, Bike & Blues festival. Paul will be running the sound for the bands.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
      • Sarah read the latest report on Oregon Fishing Industry trends done by the Research Group, you can read the report linked here. 
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Youth Entrepreneurship Program – Sarah coordinated interview times and questions with a couple local entrepreneurs for the YEP program videos.
      • OEN 10/14/26 PubTalk @ Primaltones – Paul recruited Waldport’s Tactical Laser Defense Systems for the pitch portion and sent our list of speakers to OEN. Stacie let the two SBDC-recommended entrepreneurs know that we will be connecting them with OEN soon.
  • Fail Fest 11/12 @ Primaltones  – Stacie created the primary event graphic and began reaching out to potential speakers.
  • Core Economic Development Services
      • Community and Economic Development Grant Program – Sarah and Paul recorded the grant workshop webinar on Tuesday and Sarah edited it down to cut out some flubs (like when Paul got his headphone cord tangled with his mouse when he was trying to share his screen). Stacie continued to work through updating the launch documents + created a budget template and Paul built the 26-27 application in the County’s web portal.
  • Oregon Prospector – Sarah added more listings to Oregon Prospector.
  • Community Connecting
  • Café Aquarium – Leslie’s update is short this week, as she’s been busy preparing for this event all week. She’ll share a more in-depth update next week to catch up!
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication – Stacie managed social media.
  • Project Work – Sarah worked on her presentation on Economic Summit planning for the team retreat next week. Stacie finalized the agenda for the retreat.
