Greetings and welcome to a beautiful Friday! As a reminder, Paul is currently cruising the Rhine River and is out on vacation through the 20th.
Here’s our weekly team update:
- Partner Support/Community Support
- Art, Oysters & Brews 8/1,8/2 12-5pm on Main Street in Toledo – Stacie and Sarah created a progress report and presented it to Toledo City Council on Wednesday per a request from the mayor. Stacie created a social media post highlighting the Kid Zone, distributed more posters, and met with Amber Brown, director of the Toledo Chamber of Commerce. Sarah sent a “last call for vendors” email to the ART Toledo mailing list on Monday. As of today, there are 24 vendors signed up, an AOB record!! She also submitted another permit to the city to get the AOB banners hung up at the Hwy 20 intersections in Toledo.
-
- City of Lincoln City – Sarah met with ICF, the consulting company working with Lincoln City on their EPA Technical Assistance grant to complete additional planning and feasibility work for the SE 23rd Drive area. She discussed general county business development efforts and put together some data on the blue economy and opportunities for Lincoln City. She also put together a report on the commercial and industrial properties that have sold in Lincoln City in the last three years.
-
- OCCC – Sarah sent another letter of support for OCCC’s grant application to develop a curriculum for an Aluminum Welding certificate.
- Blue Economy/O2IH
- Stacie, Sarah and Leslie attended the Blue Whale Skeleton Celebration at HMSC on Thursday.
- Mango Materials – Stacie helped coordinate water sampling from the Oregon Coast Aquarium and connected aquarium staff with HMSC so that the Mango Materials CTO was able to pick up the samples from one location when she visited HMSC on Thursday.
- Economic Mobility
- Leslie emailed and met with Newport’s Gia, Allyson, OSU Extension’s Victor Villegas, and Latino Founders multiple times this week to continue advancing both the Workforce Development Co-Design project and Latine Entrepreneurship/Small Business Support programming. Dates, venues, agendas, and other logistics are all underway. Invitations and fliers will be distributed in the next week or few.
- Core Economic Development Services
-
- Major Employers Report – Sarah continued reaching out to businesses for their employee count.
- Community Connecting
-
- Café Aquarium 2026 Planning – This week Leslie secured incentive raffle items and $2,000 from three partners for this year’s event – one check in hand, two more in the works. Next Wednesday she’ll meet with Lincoln County Public Health’s Mobile Health Clinic partners (also Juntos en Colaboración & Café Aquarium partners) to discuss logistics and other key funding decisions. On Tuesday, she’ll meet with Samaritan Health’s Amy Conner and Lincoln County Emergency Management’s Susan Trachsel to discuss cross-promotion of their two resource fairs at Café Aquarium to make the most of September’s resource fair-filled weekend. What at first seemed like a bummer of a scheduling conflict is now turning into an opportunity to connect our community with many more service organizations than fit in a single event. If you’d like to support or get involved with this year’s Café Aquarium, please email Leslie: leslie@businesslincolncounty.com. Funding for catering is still the greatest need; donations for the passport incentive raffle are the second largest need. See how event supporters are recognized alongside event data and feedback in this report and in OSU Extension’s recent article.
