Greetings and welcome to the first Friday in June!

41 years ago today, a rebel and a hero named Ferris Bueller feigned sickness and took the day off to galavant across the great City of Chicago in a semi-stolen classic Ferrari – culminating in a trip to Wrigley Field to watch the Atlanta Braves battle the Chicago Cubs. “Hey batta, batta, batta… scha-wing batta!” Not all heroes wear capes.

Thanks to all who could make our super-short June budget approval meeting yesterday. Our FY2026-27 budget was approved unanimously! Beyond simply a budget, it is an essential planning and prioritizing tool, and something we refer to constantly over the year.

Sarah was absent from the BoD because she is continuing to serve on Grand Jury duty on Thursday afternoon. Thanks for keeping us safe!

Starting Monday, the EDALC teams will try out our new Summer office hours – we will work remotely on Mondays and Fridays and be in our Waldport offices Tuesday-Thursday (just June & July). This will allow us to enjoy the outdoors and do remote work from some gorgeous locales along the Lincoln County coast (we’ve gotten quite adept at using Slack for remote-work communication).

Today is high school graduation all across the county – way to go to our graduates and high five to Majalise for another year of “Future Ready” almost in the books!

This weekend is free fishing weekend in Oregon (no license needed!). Georgia Pacific will be hosting a Community Day at the Olalla Reservoir from 10am until 2pm on Saturday, featuring forestry tours, mushroom hunting and fishing tutorials.

Our own Lisa Norton will be part of a CTSI storytelling cohort at a View the Future event this Saturday entitled: “Honoring Whale – A Centering Tribal Story.” Here’s more information on the event: https://www.viewthefuture.org/event-details/honoring-whale-a-centering-tribal-story

Here’s our weekly team update:

    • Partner Support/Community Support
      • CWEDD – Next week is the quarterly Cascades West Economic Development District full board meeting. It’ll be here in Lincoln County, at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Museum. Angee Doerr will be doing a special Shop the Dock for attendees after the meeting. Paul went to the museum today to scout the A/V and report back to the COG staff.
      • Eugene Airport – Paul had an interview today with a consultant hired to gather community and business input on the potential $450 million dollar expansion of the Eugene Airport. You can learn more here: https://liftoffeug.com/
      • Waldport Chamber – Paul met with Tom Fullmer this week to talk about Waldport and the Chamber. They then trekked over to the new Treasure Bay Resort to meet the owner and tour the facility (amazing!). This year’s Beach, Bike & Blues will be held there in September.
      • Art, Oysters & Brews – Stacie followed up on Toledo business participation with the Toledo Chamber of Commerce, checked in with the team on misc. tasks, updated the project plan, and worked on a branding cheat sheet. She will distribute vendor outreach postcards at the Night Market this evening. Sarah followed up on the petting zoo, began working on the press release and assisted vendors with registration.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
      • Task Force – Paul was recommended by Rep. Gomberg to participate in the Oregon Legislature’s Blue Economy Task Force (part of SB 1525) – he sent in his application materials mid-week.
  • Economic Mobility
      • Paul met with Allyson to review some of the preliminary Co-Design team selection work done by Allyson, Gia and our own Leslie. Paul and Nina met with Allyson to get up to speed on the various projects and potential projects that Allyson is building out in her Economic Mobility space – truly impressive work so far!
      • Sarah put together some data on latino business ownership, affordable housing needs, and impacts of internships to support Allyson’s economic mobility projects.
  • Entrepreneurship
      • CWIH – Paul attended the monthly regional leads meeting for the Innovation Hub. Much of the talk centered around upcoming events (including an access to capital event in Florence next week – https://www.tickettailor.com/events/collaborativeedo/2193840) and reporting out to Business Oregon. Paul and Business Oregon’s Regional Development Officer Heather Stevens connected with Vincent Gilbert of Tactical Laser Defense Systems – they are an early-stage innovative company developing a portable laser system to block military drone targeting (https://dronedefense4all.com/).
  • Video Series – Stacie set up a meeting with Sarah to go over the original goals and desired outcomes of an ROI funded entrepreneurial video series. Paul was brought in to provide clarification/confirmation of current understanding + next steps. Sarah has started drafting creative concepts and topics.
  • Fail Fest – The team decided on 10/29 for the 2026 Fail Fest during this week’s team meeting, and Stacie reached out to Pines Dine, Beachrest Brewing, and Primaltones for venue rental quotes and catering options.
  • Core Economic Development Services
  • Potential New Newport Grant Programs – Paul met with Nina to discuss the design and administration of two new grant programs that the City wants to stand up (with design and management help from EDALC). Paul and Stacie put together some initial thoughts and questions and we’ll be fleshing that out over the next few weeks.
  • Major Employers Report – Sarah continued to reach out to businesses for their employment numbers.
  • Oregon Prospector – Sarah updated Oregon Prospector listings and added new ones.
  • Community Connecting
  • Take Action Lincoln County May Sponsorship Update – The first round of social media sponsor recognition posts is online! Stacie shared the CTSI Facebook post and created posts for LinkedIn and Instagram.
