Greetings and welcome to Wednesday! We’ve got a shorter and earlier update this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Our EDALC team wishes you and your family a wonderful, feast-filled holiday – we all have SO MUCH to be thankful for!
Also, don’t forget the wonderful opportunities to be a bona-fide American consumer this weekend – Black Friday! Small Business Saturday! Cyber Monday!
Here’s our EDALC update for the week:
====
Blue Economy/O2IH::
Mark Farley and I met for a long and productive meeting on Tuesday to discuss a number of O2IH projects and efforts, as well as the Blue Sector survey underway by the Eastern Research Group (ERG). We aligned our “interview list” for blue sector data gathering, as well as discussed sector survey priorities (we feel that the Business Oregon anticipated deliverables to be too broad for the money and timing of this work). We also discussed the formation of the O2IH 501c3, curriculum alignment with workforce boards and further engaging ERG in some deeper dives into workforce data. – Paul
Communication/Marketing::
On Monday, I filmed some background shots of Depoe Bay and Lincoln City for the Community and Economic Development Grant Video. In the afternoon, I interviewed Lori Arce-Torres for the video and uploaded all my videos from the day to my editing software. – Sarah
On Tuesday, I edited the grant video and interviewed Commissioner Claire Hall in the afternoon. – Sarah
On Wednesday, I finished editing the grant video and exported it. – Sarah
Community Connecting::
After enjoying Restoration Pow-Wow weekend, I was excited to discuss potential overlapping interests between CTSI & EDALC for our goals and projects on the horizon. Since all three of our team attended, I’ll leave my details short on this one – but for those who know me or have read my past updates that include CTSI topics, you probably know how stoked I was to be a part of this step in CTSI & EDALC action alignment. This meeting and my following meeting were both catalyzed by conversations at this year’s Economic Development Summit – I’m grateful to be involved in many positive ripple effects of that successful EDALC event!

Community and Economic Development Grant::
I met with Quinton Smith, of the Yachats News (now a 501c3 nonprofit) in our offices to discuss their expansion and news coverage plans, as well as discussing a potential application to the Community and Economic Development Grant program. – Paul
Creative Economies::
I added the links to the google form for vendor registration for the 2023 Art, Oysters, and Brews events to the Art Toledo website on Wednesday. – Sarah
Relationship Building::
As you read above, we had a great meeting on Monday with CTSI leadership. We came away with initial steps we can take in project-based collaboration, from exploring the feasibility of an entrepreneurial kitchen in Depoe Bay to cold storage in Toledo to offering some insights and guidance on their Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. It was great having the whole team there all in sync and hitting on all cylinders! – Paul
Rural Opportunity Initiative::
I met with Brad Attig (Foundry Collective and Reinventing Rural) to talk about the CO.STARERS program, the IdeaBuddy online business plan tool and the Kiva loan program for small startups (that now has a local 4X match from Umpqua Bank). We discussed was to expand those programs in Lincoln County and he to keep this work as part of our future ROI project work. – Paul
Upcoming::
Next Tuesday, we’ll be hosting our virtual grant workshop for the county’s grant program – we’ve got about a dozen folks signed up so far, and will do one more MailChimp psh on Monday. – Paul
FYI – there is no EDALC BoD meeting in December – we’ll be setting up a meeting in January for grant review.
As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:
