Greetings and welcome to Friday! And a grateful, heartfelt fist bump out to all of those who have served on this Veteran’s Day. And a hearty “Huzzah!” For midterm election season to be over!

Here’s our EDALC update for the week:

====

Blue Economy/O2IH::

Next Tuesday is the kick off meeting for Business Oregon’s Blue Sector study. The contract has been signed with the Eastern Research Group “blue” division (https://blueearthconsultants.com/) to do the project work. I did notice a few key folks and organizations were missing from the potential advisory team list, so I reached out to Business Oregon. – Paul

I spent some time refining the tracking we’ll use for our congressionally directed spending award and set up the mechanism to get funds to EDALC for our portion of the ongoing work. I also processed our first payments to professional services vendors, so we’re officially rocking and rolling! – Paul

Communication/Marketing::

I finished the two MailChimp newsletters for the community and economic development grant program on Monday. – Sarah

I researched some data on Veterans in Lincoln County and wrote a Facebook post for Veteran’s Day on Thursday that I posted on Friday. – Sarah

Community Connecting::

Last Friday’s (Keeping Local Seafood Local) meeting was a rejuvenating meeting of minds, convened by the Oregon Coast Visitor Association (OCVA). I was excited to reconnect and meet new folks who are motivated to increase Oregon landed seafood access to coastal residents and tourists…

Multiple challenges, opportunities, and potential solutions of the effort have been identified. Like most rural challenges, it isn’t likely that a single simple solution will fit each community. However, OCVA’s invested in connecting their network and resources to organizations and businesses that are interested in improving their ability to receive, process, store, and sell Oregon landed seafood on the coast.

This week included many community conversations – what I call the check-ins and reconnections with folks who work on community-improving efforts. While it isn’t possible to bulletpoint all the information shared in these conversations, a theme often arises when discussing challenges folks are facing in their work: Identifying and addressing the gaps between the intent and actual impact of an effort.

Community and Economic Development Grant::

On Monday, Sarah and I finished revising and proofing all the documentation for the grant program and got the materials off to the county. I also wrapped up modifications to the grant application and did a test grant submission through the new grant portal. After review, Casey Miller made everything live yesterday, so we’re all good to go! – Paul

On Thursday, I scheduled the MailChimp newsletter announcing the grant opportunity to be sent out the next Monday morning. -Sarah

Creative Economies::

On Tuesday Paul and I met with the city of Toledo’s RARE person Katy, who is focusing on ART Toledo projects. We discussed the upcoming website remodel and her plans while working with ART Toledo for the next year. – Sarah

I attended the ART Toledo meeting Thursday morning. – Sarah

Our Communities::

I wrote two support letters for federal funding support for Newport’s Big Creek Dam project and got those off to senators Wyden and Merkley. I also put together a support and workforce letter for Hallmark Resorts to help them secure financing for their project to renovate the Whaler motel. – Paul

I reached out to our local folks who put their hat in the ring during this midterm election cycle and offered my congratulations (and in some cases, my condolences). We have some truly driven and dedicated local and regional folks willing to work very hard for our wonderful little slice of the coast! – Paul

Organizational Development::

Paul taught me how to add a page onto our EDALC website and we discussed some themes and options for recreating the ART Toledo website. I also looked through the different themes on theme junkie on Monday. – Sarah

I attended my monthly Leadership Lincoln class on Wednesday at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. I had never been to that building before and it was great to get a tour and look at all the amazing projects going on there. The focus of this month’s class was Community Life through Arts, Leisure, and Recreation, and we had two great panels with community leaders in the arts, parks, boating, libraries, and cultures. – Sarah

Project Work::

I wrote the minutes for November’s board meeting on Monday and Tuesday. I also updated the older Oregon Prospector listings on Thursday. – Sarah

As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:

Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all.

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
