Greetings and welcome to Friday – and Veterans Day (observed). This update is heading out first thing today since our offices are closed today in observance.

Here’s our staff update for the week:

Broadband::

We’re putting together a list of key broadband stakeholders (with much help from the board – thanks for your wisdom!) and planning to send out invites to a December 1st in person meeting with Solarity (the author of the broadband strategic plan). I also met with Lisa Norton (CTSI) on Monday to reconnect on coordinating infrastructure efforts (and some potential “wild, hairy, audacious” broadband ideas). – Paul

Communications/Marketing::

I posted on our Facebook page for an upcoming Oregon Coast SBDC class and scheduled a post for Veterans Day. – Sarah

Creative Economies::

On Tuesday, the whole team descended on the PAC to prep the food and drinks for their Arts & Economic Prosperity AEP6 event. EDALC also sponsored Ian Smith as the event’s musician. It was a well-attended event (80+ folks!) with great networking and a great, impactful presentation. I’ve attached the summary reports from AE5 and AE6 so you can see the growth of this important economic sector. Also, high-fives and Huzzahs to Sarah and Leslie – they went above and beyond in their support of this event! – Paul

For the Arts & Culture as an Economic engine event, I resent out the MailChimp newsletter on Monday and put together a Supporting the Arts guide as a handout for the event. I posted on our Facebook page promoting the event and put together some tourism data points in reference to the study results. In addition, I put together the event materials at the office and made a couple charcuterie boards! After the event, I created a spreadsheet of all the contact information we received from the attendees. – Sarah

Community and Economic Development Grant Program::

We were able to determine this week that, with the exception of the 2021-22 application, all ComEcDev online applications have been lost and unrecoverable (accidentally deleted? SmartSheet error? SmartSheet seems to have no idea). That means it’ll be a bit of work to build the new 2023-24 application and have it ready to go, but I’ve cleared my calendar on Monday and hope to plow through it. If all goes well, we should be able to open the application portal next week as anticipated. Keep those fingers crossed! – Paul

Project Work::

This week I updated the grant webpage on the EDALC website, began working on the November board meeting minutes, and updated the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider. I sent some additional property listings to a local business owner looking to expand and Paul and I cleaned up the office after all the event prep. I also prepared for the CWEDD board meeting, emailed a few of our contacts about the economic summit, and updated Oregon Prospector listings. – Sarah

Supporting and Connecting with Partners::

Cascades West Economic Development District – Today, EDALC helped to host the first in-person CWEDD board meeting in Lincoln County in over five years. We had the meeting in Hatfield’s Gladys Valley Marine Studies building, with presentations by Dave Price (Childcare bootcamp and Restaurant SBM), myself, Sarah and Drummond Wengrove (iLab). After the meeting, Drummond gave an iLab tour and we had lunch at Local Ocean – I love when we get to show off the awesomeness of our little piece of the coast!! – Paul

Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all. Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
