Greetings and welcome to Friday and welcome to May!

Thanks to everyone who could attend our BoD meeting yesterday. It was great getting to know new County Administrator Tim Johnson. Also, a very lively discussion on our other agenda topics.

This is going out earlier than usual this week – Susan and I are trekking to Eugene to pick up Susan’s Mom from the airport – she’ll be joining us for an 11-day visit (no worries – she’s a great mother-in-law!).

Here’s our EDALC update for the week:

Sarah’s Update:

I started off this week by creating the EDALC meet-and-greet event on Facebook. I also wrote some posts for event promotion and an SBDC class for food costing essentials to improve restaurant profitability that I will be posting over the next week or so. After I updated the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider on our website and researched more classes and events to add to it. I attempted to add a new phantom gallery location on Main Street in Toledo but am still waiting to hear back from the realtor.

I read the OCCC SWOT report to prepare for the OCCC all managers meeting Paul and I went to on Wednesday. At the end of the day, I worked on the ART Toledo website, a MailChimp ad for the EDALC event, and edited more graphics for International Economic Development Week. On Wednesday I continued to work on the MailChimp ad and wrote a promotion post for the Toledo community art contest. I got to sit in for the OCCC meeting that Paul ran and really enjoyed the opportunity to see him lead creative thinking and learn more about how OCCC functions. Afterwards I added a slider to the EDALC website for the meet-and-great event.

At the end of my week, I posted on Facebook about the SBDC course and created a list of ART Toledo events to add to the website. I also updated the farmers market information on our website because Waldport just started their Wednesday market and some of the others changed their times/days. Later, I created a mural page for the ART Toledo website and attended the Board meeting!

Paul’s Update:

Blue Economy – On Tuesday, Mark Farley and I trekked to Corvallis for a meeting with Rachael Maddock-Hughes to continue our planning on the Blue Sector Congressionally Directed Spending projects. Mark and I will be meeting next week to drill down a little deeper and then the week after, we’ll be meeting with the ColPac (the north coast economic development district) team to make sure we’re aligning our efforts (they look to be strong thought-partners in this work).

Economic Development Week (May 9-13) – We wrapped up our video shoots this week and videographer Casey will pull everything together into our video that we’ll launch early next week. Sarah and I saw an early cut and it looks awesome! Next Thursday, from 4-5:30pm is our “meet and greet” event at COVE. We’ll send out reminders during the week. And Tracy – we have the large poster highlighting EDALC’s work good to go!

OCCC – On Wednesday afternoon, Sarah and I attended the OCCC’s All Manager meeting to facilitate a brainstorming session on creating a compelling future for the college. One the ice was broken, folks really opened up with some wonderful and amazing ideas. It was truly a privilege to participate and facilitate that event.

Spreading Awareness – This week, I was interviewed by Commissioner Claire Hall for the County Connections radio program. We had a great back and forth discussion on a number of topics from Economic Development Week to local entrepreneurship to the importance of small businesses in our county. It was a real pleasure to be part of that show once again! Last night, I was a guest on the “Talkness Monster” podcast – talking about the early days of PC game development. Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the release of “Wolfenstein 3D,” the first legitimate first-person shooter game and the first ever blockbuster PC game. It was great diving back into those memories!

As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:

Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
