Greetings and welcome to Friday and welcome what looks to be a gorgeous, sunny weekend!
Hats off to Stacie for her excellent social media ninja work this week – using the 2024 International Economic Development Week to share EDALC’s impacts across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn!
Also remember that Sunday is Mother’s Day!
Here’s our update for this week:
Blue Economy::
I read the draft reports of the economic impact of the NOAA MOC-P fleet being in Newport. – Sarah
Sarah and I (along with Mark Farley) met with the Eastern Research Group for our first reactions to an initial draft of the NOAA Economic Impact study. We’ll review in more depth next week and have another followup with ERG after then. So far, it’s looking like some solid work, especially on their “outward facing” draft. I also met with Rachael and Sherry of Rural Prosperity Partners to discuss continued grant prospecting efforts with the Blue Economy. – Paul
Coastal Caucus Economic Summit::
The entire EDALC crew attended the Coastal Economic Summit on Wednesday at Chinook Winds. 11 hours of sessions (perhaps a bit too long!) covered at all aspects of the coastal economy, looking at both challenges and opportunities. EDALC’s BoD was represented on stage by Birgitte, Lesley (via video) and Paula with other directors in attendance. I had the honor of doing one of the opening presentations. Great learning and networking all day long! – Paul
Community Connecting::
I’m on Jury Duty this May and served on a two-day trial on May 2 and 3rd. I’m preparing this two-week report a day early in case I get called in again on May 10 (my number is likely in the next call). The juror turnout is so low this month that I’ll be checking in for duty all month long, even after being seated in a two-day trial.
Here’s the link to Leslie’s always awesome full report: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19ZC14641J-ezyOyT9gdyBkH-bmnzOGC-6LbUqRDSPQw/edit?usp=sharing
Economic Report::
Doug Holbrook let me know that the two contracts that make up the update of the 2014 Lincoln County Economic Report are done and have been submitted to Administrator Johnson for review. Thanks for your help on that Doug! – Paul
Events::
This week I prepared for the YEP event next Wednesday and Stacie and I tested out the tech at the Hatfield Auditorium. I also reached out to some vendors and the yacht club coordinator for the EDALC/YBEF event. – Sarah
Marketing & Communication::
Posted on LI, IG, and FB every day for Economic Development Week. Check out today’s post! – Stacie
Project Work::
I update the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider, Oregon prospector listings, and began working on the major employers report. – Sarah
Supporting Partners::
CWEDD – Yesterday, I travelled to Eugene to run my first Cascades West Economic Development District board meeting as chair, held at LCOG’s offices (very swanky, BTW). We had 35 folks in attendance, and the entire meeting had a great signal-to-noise ratio. I was a little nervous, but I’ll dial it in over time! – Paul
Leadership Lincoln – On Wednesday afternoon, I was honored to deliver a 90 minute version of my Creativity Boot Camp program to Leadership Lincoln. It was during the coastal summit, but also at Chinook Winds, so I was able to slip out and back into the summit. – Paul
OCCC – On Tuesday eventing, Dr. Andres Oroz and I presented to the Depoe Bay City Council on the upcoming OCATT bond measure. We did a great tag-team, had some good questions and I think walked out of there with some solid support. – Paul
Port of Newport – I was able to pull together a letter of support to the Maritime Administration for a funding request for modernization of Port Dock 7. – Paul
Upcoming::
Save the date for the evening of June 27th for the co EDALC/YBEF annual meeting and celebration.
Also, there will be NO EDALC BoD meetings in June or July (with the exception of our annual meeting) – enjoy the freedom!
As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:
Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all. Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
-Paul 🙂
