Greetings and welcome to Friday!

Speaking of “time flies” – last weekend was my three-year anniversary here at EDALC – what a journey it’s been! I remember June 4th, 2020 was my first Board of Directors meeting… sitting on a folding char with a laptop on a folding table since our furniture hadn’t arrived yet.

Here’s our weekly staff update:

Blue Economy::

This week, I met with Rachael and Sherry at Sequoia Consulting to review some potential upcoming grant funding opportunities that may fit our O2IH priorities. On my short-term to-do list is to pull together a more refined plan of work spreadsheet (in concert with Mark Farley as well) for our CDS work through September 2024, to better evaluate potential grant opportunities. I’ll also use that to update our four page “elevator pitch” document to help inform potential future funders. We also have a call scheduled with Wesley Cochran (EDA) on the 21st to discuss some potential blue funding. – Paul

Broadband::

Last Friday, I met with Lisa Norton (CTSI) to discuss local and regional broadband approaches and we came up with some solid ideas on how to inform our local stakeholders and explore potential future projects. Our team also worked to market a digital equity webinar that is being held next week as part of the EDA broadband planning grant. – Paul

Communications/Marketing::

I posted about the Yachats CO.STARTERS entrepreneur bootcamp on our Facebook page this week. – Sarah

Community Connecting::

(an excerpt from Leslie’s update)

I enjoyed Monday night’s opportunity to eat local seafood at Oregon Fishmongers in Depoe Bay while catching up with Oregon Coast Visitors Association (OCVA) folks and the Depoe Bay Chamber network. I shared my Lincoln County Events Plandisc resource (and Plandisc’s website) with Arica and Karen from OCVA when our conversations veered to the challenges of scheduling events and conferences around all of Oregon Coast’s existing recurring annual and monthly events. There’s a chance OCVA and/or Travel Oregon can use a circular calendar concept to create some new annual calendar resources with all the recurring events and conferences they’re involved with!

Creative Economies::

I spent some time this week helping ART Toledo design and layout a series of print ads (focusing on summer events) for the News-Times, Oregon Coast Today, OC Waves and Eugene Weekly. – Paul

For ART Toledo this week, I worked on the new website, I attended the Art, Oysters & Brews subcommittee meeting Tuesday morning, and created a Sponsors page on the current website. I also updated the Donations page on the website and invited some artists to be vendors at the Art, Oysters & Brews events. – Sarah

Events::

For the YBEF and EDALC event this week, I sent out some more punchbowl invites, I finished the presentation and recorded it into a video. I requested lots of quotes from Special Occasions rental company and got our reservation finalized. I reached out to Pacific Digital about getting some stickers printed and asked Rogue if they would support the event and we’re getting some beer! Paul and I also checked out the new Port Administration building on Tuesday to help visualize what we needed for the event. – Sarah

Organizational Development::

The week after next, Bob and I are going to meet at Hatfield to discuss opportunities and challenges for EDALC over the upcoming fiscal year. It’s a first step of laying out a roadmap for our upcoming work, and I want to start turning our attention to some longer-range innovative projects. I also started work on our annual report four-pager. – Paul

Paul, Leslie, and I had our team meeting Tuesday morning, and I worked on my Leadership Lincoln presentation video and leadership speech throughout the week. I also completed the expense report. – Sarah

Project Work::

I worked on the major employers report throughout the week and updated the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider on the EDALC website. On Wednesday, I updated the average rent of commercial buildings in Lincoln County and on Friday, I worked on Oregon Prospector updates. – Sarah

Upcoming Events::

YBEF/EDALC Annual Meeting and Celebration:

Thursday, June 29th (5:30pm start time) – *new* Port of Newport office building. The event will have tasty apps from Sorella’s, some custom mixed Italian cocktails, acoustic blues instrumental music (wonder who’ll be playing?) and an interesting program. Hope to see all of you there!

As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:

We’ve got some friends driving out from Illinois to spend the weekend with us (we haven’t seen them for six years!), and then I’m doing one of my summer one night camping retreats on Sunday night – I’ll be out of the office on Monday.

Have wonderful weekend! Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all. Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
