EDALC Weekly Staff Update – June 3, 2022
Greetings and welcome to Friday! This was going to go out on late Thursday because I was expecting to enjoy two nights of camping at the Blackberry campground in Siuslaw… but the weather gods were not kind (I’m a fair weather tent camper!). So we’ll try it again in a few weeks…
Thanks to all who could attend our June Board of Directors meeting and annual meeting yesterday afternoon.
A HUGE thank you to the outgoing officers: Tracy and Curt – your guidance and mentorship has meant so much to EDALC over the past few years and we’ll still be relying on your wise council and your institutional knowledge in the year to come.
And a hearty Huzzah! to our FY 2022-23 EDALC officers:
President – Birgitte
Past President – Tracy
Vice President – Bob
Secretary – Lesley
Treasurer – Michael
At-Large – Carrie
At-Large – Karen
And a warm welcome to Lorna Davis to our EDALC Board of Directors!
A shorter update this week – short week and most of my time was spent on federal paperwork “fun.”
Here’s our EDALC update for the week:
====
Sarah’s Update:
No update from Sarah this week – she still recuperating, but doing well and doing a bit of work online. She’s be back at it next Tuesday.
====
Paul’s Update:
Blue Economy – Most all of my time this week was working through the required forms to be submitted to the Small Business Administration yesterday for our Congressionally Directed Funding award of $1 million. I’m actually glad for the process (though incredibly frustrated at the federal websites and their callous disregard for functionality or a meaningful user interface). They even found ways to make filling out a PDF challenging! BUT we got it done and I learned a lot about doing federal budget narratives (be precise but not too precise!) and creating a justification for our federal fringe rate. I did receive word yesterday afternoon from our grants officer that all digital “paperwork” was received.
Newport Chamber – We wrapped up the first round of interviews last night and are setting up the parameters for round two early next week.
Waldport – I had a working lunch yesterday with Waldport Mayor Greg Holland explore ways that EDALC can help bring some capacity to their efforts. They have some movement in their local creative economy (which fits in well with our ROI priorities), and will be doing some essential improvements to their industrial park with will get is closer to truly shovel-ready. The first step is getting a time to go before council and talk with them to explore their near-future priorities.
Newport – I was invited on Wednesday to participate in Newport’s monthly Ford Family Foundation check in on their community-building work and the Vision 2040 efforts. We’re scheduled to meet with Spencer and Peggy soon to hopefully nail down the final logistics for Leslie Palotas to join us as a grant-funded employee.

Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
-Paul 🙂
