Paul’s week:

Enterprise Zone Re-Designation – We received acknowledgement from the state on the submission of our application (some files took a few re-sends). We did receive a few requests for additional information (that was not indicated on the application form) and some clarification on some of the map data and tax-lot IDs – I’m working with Brad Balk at the county on some of the map issues, and all should be sorted out next week. All looks good for our approval on the continued designation of our Lincoln County Enterprise Zone.

CWEDD CEDS – This week, I worked with other members of the CWEDD Board of Directors on a survey to regional stakeholders in our Cascades West Economic Development District, as part of the planning to implement the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (which was approved in February). We’re planning a half-day workshop in September to formalize the implementation approaches.

CWEDD Grant Awards – the Intergovernmental Agreements arrived late this week to clear the path for receiving the funding on our two awarded projects (one in partnership with Newport and one with Toledo). I also met this week with Leslie Palotos of Newport 2040 to get the ball rolling on the strategic planning website that is at the core of the EDALC/Newport project. I’ll be refining our functional specification for the WordPress plugin we’ll be developing and will hopefully be able to select the developer next week.

ART Toledo – Last Saturday’s Art, Oysters and Brews event was a huge success in Toledo, and it looks like about 500 folks came through over the course of the day! I got to meet and have some good conversations with Rachael Maddock-Hughes, Commissioner Hunt and Representative Gomberg after I wrapped up my blues guitar set – and no one threw tomatoes at me, so I’ll call it a win!

Regional Resiliency Assessment – I was in a meeting yesterday where Aniko Drlik-Muehleck of the University of Oregon’s Institute for Policy Research and Engagement unveiled an initial draft of a regional and county-wide data gathering project to determine a baseline on scoring the economic resiliency of our economic development district and the individual component counties. While there are few surprises, they did come up with a good set of data indicators for resiliency, including age dependency, households that are “cost burdened” by the cost of housing and other factors. It should grow into a great tool for planning and also to shore-up decision making with data. I did notice a few discrepancies in the Lincoln County report and let Aniko know – and we’ll get a revised report soon that I’ll share out and can add to our website.

PPP – This week, reporting opened up for those who received PPP forgivable loans, which we did back in February. I’ve got most of the reporting done and am just waiting on some info back from Bryan’s team, and then I’ll get that submitted to Columbia Bank and the SBA.

Next Week – Next week, myself, Alison Robertson (Lincoln City) and Dave Price will be meeting with some prospective new owners of the Lincoln City Outlet Mall to answer their questions about Lincoln City and Lincoln County.

Also, next week is the kick-off of the SBDC’s Business Over Burgers summer event (https://oregoncoast.edu/sbdc/). Looking forward to that event series – I’ll be one of the speakers at the August 23rd event.
