Greetings and welcome to Friday! Today and tomorrow is Hatfield’s Big Blue Film Festival, and it’s completely sold out. Way to go Bob and team (and festival director Erin Webber)!! Susan and I, and the EDALC team, will be attending tonight. Looking SO forward to it!

Here’s our weekly staff update:

Broadband::

We’ve rescheduled the Lincoln County Broadband 101 event with Solarity for February 10th – that should allow us to capture many more municipal partners and stakeholders. – Paul

Communication/Marketing::

I began building the marketing calendar through google and added each of the marketing plans from Monday.com onto the calendar. I posted on our EDALC Facebook page this week about some free at home childcare business classes through Reinventing Rural, a Kiva loan opportunity for the Nye Beach Montessori School, and about the EDALC staff’s walk through the woods. – Sarah

Community Connecting::

This month brings legislative bill advocacy and the restarting of multiple collaborative meetings and projects. This update is a two-week update to the EDALC board and my monthly update to the City of Newport and its Vision Advisory Committee.

As always, Leslie’s full report is a great read and learning experience (and color-coded!!): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xVnTsNF1aIEKhwvhRJczvWl9GJ8paL9GMK3IFbteUoM/edit?usp=sharing

Community and Economic Development Grant::

We’ll be doing our grant discussion and recommendations next Thursday at our February board meeting. We’ve got most of the scores in (thanks so much!!), with just a few remaining. Looking forward to a lively conversation next Thursday afternoon. – Paul

Creative Economies::

I attended the ART Toledo fundraising subcommittee meeting Monday morning. I shared and continued building the ART Toledo fundraising prospects sheet. On Tuesday, I reviewed and wrote notes for an ART Toledo funding ask letter. On Wednesday and Thursday, I did research on how to create and customize a new audience in MailChimp and began creating one for future ART Toledo newsletters. – Sarah

Events::

I began planning the EDALC board event and contacted some local businesses about possibly using their space. We’ll talk more about this at next Thursday’s meeting – Sarah

Our Communities::

Yachats – On Tuesday, the newly revitalized Yachats Chamber of Commerce, under new Executive Director Bobbi Price, had their first mixer event at the Adobe. Leslie and I represented EDALC. It was a packed house with close to 100 in attendance. The program featured the new owner of the Adobe talking renovation plans and then Bobbi and the Chamber’s web developer showed off phase one of their new website. So glad to see that organization revitalized! – Paul

Project Work::

Lindt Slough property – This week, Sarah and I met with the owner of 18 acres of property on Lindt Slough in Waldport – he wants some help brainstorming some recreation-based sustainable development on the property. Sarah and I also donned our hiking boots and trekked out to the location and hiked the trail down to the slough. Check out our FB page for a pic from our adventure. – Paul

OCCC’s New Building – On Tuesday, OCCC hosted a brainstorming session with college senior staff and a several community stakeholders to explore potential names, themes and branding approaches as they look to set the language for the ballot initiative. – Paul

I updated Oregon Prospector listings on Wednesday and Friday. I updated the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider on Tuesday. I also ordered some name-tags for the EDALC staff on Friday. – Sarah

Supporting and Connecting with Partners::

Northwest Oregon Works (NOW) – This morning, NOW had their bi-monthly board meeting at the OCCC’s South Campus (and EDALC home base). There were just under 30 in attendance, with another 30 via Zoom. Birgitte and Dave gave a great presentation on OCCC/LCSD CTE collaboration and the upcoming bond measure. I was honored to do a short update on the state of our local and regional economy and our ongoing economic development efforts. – Paul

LCSD/OCCC CTE Day – Sarah and I met with Matt Batchelor this week to discuss ways that EDALC can support the February 15th CTE day at the Newport OCCC campus. It sounds like it’ll be a very impressive and exciting day. We’ll be supporting by helping with mock interviews for students and we’ll also be putting together a short “tips for interviewing” screemsheet for the students. – Paul
