Greetings and welcome to Friday. Compared to past weeks, this week has been downright calm – only one impeachment, gale-force winds, flooding and King Tides. Bring it on 2021!

Here’s our update for the week –

====
Suzan’s week:

* Daily/ weekly routine tasks
* Yearend record shifting/shredding/reorganization process
* Financial Report
* Pay bills in bill pay
* QBO
* Read documents
* Sort, organize, file
* Delete old ED emails

====
Paul’s week:

Digital Marketing Test – Just a quick update on the campaign – as of this afternoon, we’ve had just over 9,300 impressions with just over 260 clickthroughs to the landing page. We’ve got about four days left in our test campaign and then we’ll analyze the results.

Nominated! – I was happily surprised this week to learn that the EDALC has been nominated for one of Newport’s 2020 Community Vision Awards. Hot dog!

Video Project – Our team did some work this week making the connections with folks at Rogue (President Dharma Tamm and Marketing Director Hagen Moore) – we’ll be doing our first “Great Things Happening in Lincoln County” video on Rogue’s pivot to make hand sanitizer at the start of the COVID crisis.

BusinessOregon Research – I was asked by Melissa Murphy of BusinessOregon if I had any knowledge of a company called National Carbon Technologies – they are looking for some support from the organization (and state) and are headquartered in Michigan. I was able to reach out to my contact at MEDC (the MI version of BizOR) and learned that they used to operate under another name and declared bankruptcy under that previous name and skipped out on $21M in state loans and grants. Yipes!

PPP – With the new Paycheck Protection Program coming online, I attended an OregonRAIN seminar on the new program and also did some research on the SBA site. I put up several informational posts on FB and LinkedIn and am also doing some research on the viability (and sensibleness) of an EDALC PPP application (since it looks like 501(c)(6) organizations are eligible this go-round).

Enterprise Zone – I’ve been communicating with Art Fish this week on some COVID-related changes to the exemption requirements. I’ve also started a deep dive into what we need to do to apply for the re-up of our EZ later this Spring.

Staff Planning 2021 – Suzan and I will be having a mini staff retreat on Wednesday morning to plan for the year, look at our areas of resolubility going forward and solidifying our professional development plans for the year.

Blue Economy – This week, the Leadership Lincoln topic was the fishing industry and we had six great speakers – I learned a ton and had a chance to ask some good questions that relate to our work here at the EDALC. I also spent some time writing up a project brief for the Maritime Innovation Center on developing a web simulation game on running a fishing boat – the audience would be jr. high through high school – to allow them to understand the industry at the same time when they are making their first educational discussions with potential career ramifications. A crazy idea, but it could be very cool and valuable in the younger workforce development pipeline and also helping to “sell the sizzle with the bacon” in this career space.

Restarting – We’re restarting a north county economic development next week to bring folks together to discuss challenges and opportunities. This was in place several years ago, but it’s time to get it back in action once again.
