Happy Friday! It looks like we’ve got a cool, crisp and sunny Fall weekend ahead of us (technically, Fall doesn’t start until 5:44am on Sunday).
Remember – next week is our special BoD meeting to hear the results of the NOAA economic impact study. The punchbowl invite for the EDALC/YBEF event next Wednesday, Sept. 25 was sent out earlier this week, if you haven’t RSVP’d yet please do! Here’s the weekly staff update:
-
- Partner Support/Community Support
- CWEDD – Paul met with the CWEDD staff to discuss logistics and sponsorships for the October 29th regional meeting (to engage regional organizations in the CEDS update process), to be held at the Benton County fairgrounds. Paul just heard back today that event costs are fully covered by sponsors.
- Lincoln City – On Monday, Paul traveled to Lincoln City to participate in the quarterly Brownfields Advisory Committee meeting. Topics included reviewing a priority survey, touring the “asset inventory” map and discussing Lincoln City site development priorities.
- Regional ED Practitioners – On Tuesday, Paul and Sarah traveled to Albany for a quarterly lunch with regional economic development practitioners.
- Partner Support/Community Support
- Blue Economy/O2IH

-
- STTR – As you may recall from a few updates back, Oregon Maritime Energy, LLC (OME) submitted a letter of intent to a Department of Entergy STTR technology transfer grant program (OME is a company that formed as a result of EDALC’s support work on green methanol, through our CDS grant). This week was the “next step or no next step” deadline – and GREAT news – the DOE has determined that OME’s Letter of Intent was responsive to Topic C59-13a, Complex Data: Advanced Data Analytic Technologies for Systems Biology and Bioenergy. Next step is a Phase 1 grant application in October (which will be in partnership with Georgia Tech).
-
- Entrepreneurship
- Fail Fest – Sarah worked on the press release for the Fail Fest event that will go out early next week.
- Broadband
-
-
- BEAD – Paul met with Pioneer Telephone Cooperative president Jim Rennard to discuss a potential Lincoln County BEAD (broadband infrastructure grant program) application that would include multiple ISPs. Applications must cover an entire school district. Next week, Paul will be reaching out to LCSD to brief them and gauge their interest in participating.
- CTSI – Today Paul prepared an EDALC letter of support for the CTSI’s application to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program.
- Lincoln County BoC Update – Rural Prosperity Partners gave a broadband update (and a Broadband Action Team update) to the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday. Paul was in attendance and offered some additional insights and commentary to RPP’s presentation.

- Core Economic Development Services
- Community and Economic Development Grant
-
-
-
- Sarah worked on the press release for the grant program and helped review the updated documents. The hope is to make the grant program live next week.
- Oregon Prospector
- Sarah updated Oregon Prospector listings and checked old ones to make sure they were still active. She also uploaded a tutorial video onto EDALC’s Youtube page about how to utilize the tool and what information can be listed on there for those interested in listing their property on the site.

- Community Connecting
-
-
- Last night’s Café Resource at the Newport Public Library was a cup-filling experience! The number of organizations represented (most with bilingual Latina/o/x employees) and the family attendance was incredible. Leslie’s Community Connector networking bloomed a bit more as each group walked through the door or set up at outside tables. Even Laura Isiordia (The Ford Family Foundation & Fortaleza) and Brenda Mendoza (Fortaleza & Protect our Children) journeyed out from the Valley to attend the community event. Leslie was excited to introduce them both to Laura Kimberly, who has done so much to increase Spanish language resources, books, and programming in the Newport Public Library. Laura Isiordia and Brenda have already connected with Star Khan at Driftwood Public Library and Conexión Fénix, so this rounds out their networking with Lincoln County’s Libros for Oregon representatives. Excited conversations on Guadalajara connections and combined interests ensued.

- Accounting – Paul met with Misty Ness at Bryan’s accounting office to talk through issues relating to handling multiple accounts on EDALC’s balance sheet, how to record PTO when Paul logs payroll and where in the process the healthcare stipends get taxed. She also recommended Paul talk to Charlotte Lehto (Farmers Insurance) to see if our larger team size means we might be able to set up a health care group.
- Internet outage at the office on Thursday – peaceful, non-digital work!
- Stacie worked on cleaning up/reorganizing office supplies and copy room.
- Sarah picked up trash outside the office.
- Paul tackled many, many piles of stale paperwork and organized notes from so very many meetings.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you!
Cheers,
-The EDALC Team (Paul, Sarah, Leslie and Stacie)
