Greetings and welcome to Friday!
This week’s report is a little shorter – Stacie is on vacation in Montana and Leslie is neck-deep in her work on the Resource Cafe event at the Aquarium (Go Leslie, go!).
Also, if you are in Waldport tomorrow for the Beach, Bike and Blues event, Paul will be the kick-off musician with his Depression-era blues.
Here’s our weekly team update:
-
- Partner Support/Community Support
- CCFW – Sarah attended a CCFW executive committee meeting as well as a meeting with their executive director Jim and Kaety Jacobson to discuss Kaety’s workplan to develop a strategic plan for the organization.
- CWEDD – This Thursday, Paul chaired the quarterly Board meeting of the Cascades West Economic Development District. In this meeting, the Board voted (unanimously) to approve the 2025-2030 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the region – a project just about a year in the making. The Board also approved a contract with EDALC to create a video to raise awareness about the EDD and the CEDS.
- Lincoln City – Paul and Sarah put the final touches on our latest EDALC report and our Lincoln City supplement and sent it off to Alison Robertson at the City. Paul will be presenting before the City Council on September 22nd.
- Lincoln City Police Department – Thanks to a connection from Majalise, Sarah and Paul met with Lt. Weaver at the police department in Lincoln City (what a NICE building!) to discuss helping them craft an officer recruitment video.
- OCCC – On Thursday, over 100 folks showed up at the OCCC Newport campus for the official ground breaking for the new Oregon Coast Advanced Trades and Technology Center – so good to see so many EDALC Directors there – what a wonderful event!
- OEDA Conference – Sarah and Paul nearly wrapped up their work on planning the “Adventure Day” for the OEDA annual conference and shot the updated schedule and costs to the conference planning committee.
- Toledo – Paul trekked to Toledo today for a lunch meeting with Mayor Rod Cross. Paul got an update on all things Toledo and they discussed future collaboration efforts.

- CWIH – Paul worked this week with the Innovation Hub core team to put together marketing materials and an invite list for the next CWIH event entitled: Fueling Growth: How Service Providers Can Support Innovation-Based Business. The event will be October 3rd at Linn-Benton Community College.
- Rural Opportunity Initiative – Paul and Sarah started work on the Business Oregon ROI grant application (due on September 21) and Paul sent out requests for letters of support. Most of next week’s work will be focused on getting this grant out the door.
- RPP – Paul met today with Rural Prosperity Partners to discuss a potential grant submission to the EDA’s Disaster Supplemental program. Paul and Newport City Administrator Nina Vetter discussed a possible collaborative application a few weeks back, and Paul reached out to Cathy Rigby, the City’s grant manager, to discuss possible partnership on this grant.
