Greetings and welcome to the first Friday in June! Based on the traffic on 101 later this week, it seems that the visitors have descended upon us! Fear the out-of-state left-turner!

Also welcome to the new format of our weekly team update – Stacie has helped organize the topic areas to more directly match our work and priority areas within Monday.com (our team-tool for project and task management). We’re also all co-authoring the update real-time in a shared Google doc. It may take us a few weeks to get our sea-legs with the new format, but please let us know what you think. And now… on with the update:

  • Partner Support/Community Support
    • Newport airport – Paul worked through the raw airport survey data to combine “anticipated annual trips through Newport” with the most desired price ranges for airfare. The results ranged from $365K-730K in potential annual, non-subsided revenue. He’ll be presenting this info at next week’s airport meeting.
    • YBEF – Sarah continued to work on event coordination for the annual YBEF/EDALC celebration happening on June 27th!
    • ART Toledo
      • Sarah did event coordination for the Art, Oysters & Brews ART Toledo event happening August 3rd & 4th, such as reaching out to local artists asking them to participate, updating the Art Toledo website, and getting trash services donated for the event (Thank you Dahl Disposal!). She also put together marketing materials for the Chalk the Block event happening on June 29th and updated the website/registration form.
      • Stacie posted AOB vendor call in Toledo and Waldport community groups and on Nextdoor. Also asked Yaquina Art Association president Ken Hartwell to share with membership via email.

  • Blue Economy/O2IH
    • Mark, Drummond and Paul met with Don Gerhart (Challenger Biosciences) to get up to speed on the green methanol project. It looks like the next SBIR/STTR window for the Department of Energy will open up on July 8th – at that point, we’ll know if our project will be a good fit. It certainly does look like it makes a lot of “double bottom line” business sense.
    • NOAA Economic Impact Report – Sarah and Paul read through the final draft versions of the internal and external facing versions of the report (one in report form and the other as an internal memo). They met with the Eastern Research Group Friday morning – mostly to begin planning some public outreach meetings to share the results of the study.
    • NOAA Ocean-Based Climate Resilience Accelerator Grant
      • Stacie and Sarah got up to speed on criteria for NOAA grant. Paul, Sarah and Stacie met to review. Sarah is combing through existing documentation and compiling information for a draft of the OSU/EDALC portion of the grant application.

  • Community Connecting
  • Take Action Lincoln County Website Development
  • With Paul’s website development expertise, time, and guidance, we’re plugging away at the new website, which will start by hosting online donations for CTSI’s Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow.
  • Take Action: Would your organization like to sponsor (and be recognized for sponsoring) this summer’s Pow-Wow? Let me know and I’ll contact you as soon as the website is up and running!
  • This opportunity with CTSI is the catalyst for this website (which has been in my mental parking lot for years). I’m thrilled to be researching and dreaming into many other ways this site can connect locals and visitors with community-improving organizations, businesses, and opportunities that help make Lincoln County, Oregon, a better place to live, work, and play.

  • Marketing & Communication
      • Stacie shared posts from towns/orgs across Lincoln County to EDALC Facebook and Instagram stories today. May make this LC roundup a weekly occurrence.

  • Admin
    • Our biweekly team meeting took place June 6th – we came together to update each other on our efforts, our challenges and how we can help each other in our efforts. It’s always productive and energizing.
    • Paul wrestled with the federal government’s SAM awards management system for several days early this week. Our EDALC registration was set to expire next week. It was all straightforward until it was time to update our banking information. Apparently their database isn’t set up to handle when one bank (Columbia) gets merged with another bank (Umpqua) and then a third bank (1st Security) comes in and takes over. Paul did manage to get some tech support help and after going through a literally insane and draconian process (some time, ask Paul to share with you the instructions they sent him – unintentional humor of the highest order), we’re all set and our EDALC registration remains active.
    • Stacie updated Monday dashboard to include new boards + added widget filters. Created review/cleanup task for Paul. Updated team Monday guide.
    • Team will be following this new structure and process for weekly updates.
    • Leslie, Paul, and Stacie are reaching out to potential team retreat locations. We’ll be doing a day-long staff retreat in early July to get our battle-plans aligned for the new fiscal year.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you! Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,

-The EDALC Team (Paul, Sarah, Leslie and Stacie)
