Greetings and welcome to Friday. Also, welcome to the first day of Summer (technically at 7:42pm tonight)!

Also, since July is just around the corner, a reminder that EDALC does NOT have a July Board of Directors meeting… We’ll have our annual meeting next week (see below) and then our next regular meeting will be on Thursday, August 7th. The team will get the FY25-26 calendar together and get it off to the Board ASAP.

Here’s our weekly team update:

    • Partner Support/Community Support
      • Art, Oysters and Brews – Paul completed the AOB poster and Sarah coordinated a meeting with the ART Toledo committee next week. She also sent out emails to past art vendors asking them to participate again this year, confirmed the petting zoo, and began working on the press release.
  • CCFW – Sarah attended a CCFW executive committee meeting and a meeting on the impact report that is being developed for the organization.
      • LCHAB – Yesterday, Paul had a wrap up meeting with Jane Barth, the consultant facilitating the Funding and Policy committee of the Homeless Advisory Board. He suggested some ways that an economic development lens could be utilized in future work. All the committees will now be merged into one larger committee going forward.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
  • Website – Stacie added additional resources and researched/wrote/published a new blog post. She also began compiling information for potential O2IH content collaborations and expanded EDALC social media following to include blue economy/coastwide resources. She also started planning out the best way to ensure that the north, central and south coast regions are equally represented by O2IH.
  • Broadband
      • BAT – Paul attended the Broadband Action Team meeting yesterday. It was time to say goodbye to Steve Corbato of Link Oregon and meet his replacement – Jackie Wirz. Most of the meeting revolved around the continuing confusion coming down from the federal NTIA relating to the BEAD program. The previous Biden-era program was based around “once in a generation” funding facilitating long-lasting infrastructure work (fiber). The new focus is more about getting as much done as fast and cheaply as possible without a nod towards the longevity of the technology. It’s completely possible that when the application window opens up, it will only be a 14 day turnaround, which may render the application process impossible, since the new FCC broadband map has not yet been released. News will be shared as it comes in.
  • Core Economic Development Services
      • Lincoln County Economic Report – Sarah reviewed the latest draft of the updated Lincoln County Economic report, did some research on some additional data points or places that needed more context, and put together some final questions for Shannon and Hans.
      • Major Employers Report – Sarah reached out to local businesses for their employment numbers.
      • Oregon Prospector – Sarah updated listings on Oregon Prospector and added new ones.
  • Community Connecting
  • Meeting with Susy Lacer, Siuslaw Vision, and Professional Grantwriter Leslie met Susy, a longtime Rural Community Building inspiration, in Florence to ask her professional assistance with grantwriting and funding efforts, especially those that can forward future CWEDD CED Strategies applicable to both of our counties. Not only did Leslie receive Susy’s affirmation of the great work the EDALC team is doing, but she agreed to help EDALC with future grantwriting advice and efforts. With Susy’s superpowers added to the EDALC team’s Central Coast efforts, Leslie feels rejuvenated and leveled up for the continued community-improving work ahead.
      • Latine Mesoamerican Cultural Fest Promotion and Sponsorship Opportunities– Leslie met Alex Llumiquinga for lunch on Wednesday to continue planning logistics and communications for next Saturday’s Latine Cultural Fest. Please help spread the word by sharing this Facebook post or this poster PDF with your networks! For businesses and organizations seeking to expand their audiences by showing their Cultural Fest support, please see event details and opportunities in Arcoíris Cultural’s Invitation for Sponsors here. Alex is also still accepting donations for the raffle, please read and share this letter for more info on this opportunity.
      • Ford Family Foundation – This week, EDALC received the official link to apply for another Invited Strategic Program grant to help find Lelie’s Community Connector work. The narrative, budget and supporting materials are all complete and have been reviewed by tFFF – now the verbiage just needs to be formatted to fit into their online grant application portal (and word counts). Paul and Leslie met yesterday to talk about submission logistics and other funding and programmatic ideas..

  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication – Stacie scheduled Juneteenth social media posts + shared relevant partner/regional posts on various social media channels.
  • Project Work – Stacie finalized plans for the annual meeting. We’re expecting 50-60 folks at this point.

Reminder: next Thursday evening is our annual meeting and celebration with the Yaquina Bay Economic Foundation. The event starts at 5:30pm at Primal Tones in the Aquarium Village. Awesome jazz music will be provided by Whole Lotta Louis and food provided by Raised by Wolves. We’ve got some special bubbly to share as well: Sokol Blosser’s amazing 2022 Bluebird Cuvee. That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you! Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,
