Greetings and welcome to the first Friday in May! A little gray today, but hopefully sunnier weekend skies are in the offing (especially for the Loyalty Days Parade!).

Thanks to all who could make the May 1st Board of Directors meeting and for great questions and comments on our FY25-26 draft budget. Paul has sent out a Doodle poll to the Executive Committee for a mid-May work session to dial in the budget for our super-short June 5th budget approval meeting (via Zoom).

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Thursday, June 26th (invites going out soon) – it’s the joint EDALC/YBEF annual meeting and celebration at Primal Tones. If there’s anyone you want to invite, let Paul and Stacie know.

Here’s EDALC’s weekly team update:

  • Partner Support/Community Support
    • City of Newport – Paul met with Newport City Manager Nina Vetter to discuss a potential application to the ICMA’s Economic Mobility and Opportunity Special Assistants Program (https://icma.org/emo-sa). After some brainstorming, it seemed clear that a Newport application could be very strong. EDALC will work to help the City put together a submission.
    • Toledo/BMO – Paul and Stacie met with Toledo BMO Bank Manager Jeff Hilbert to talk about ways we can help them promote their “zero barriers” education program and other future collaborations.
    • OCCA – Please take a moment to share your insight for the Nye Beach Cultural District Development! From Jason Holland: Community members are encouraged to complete a brief S.W.O.T. survey (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to share ideas related to creativity, culture, and community life.

Share your feedback in person, hear the results from the online survey and listen to a presentation by consultant Laurence Qamar.

Friday May 9 4:00-6:00p Room 205, Newport Visual Arts Center

Saturday, May 10 2:30-4:30 Newport Performing Arts Center

  • Entrepreneurship
      • Cascades West Innovation Hub – The whole team trekked to Eugene on Tuesday for the “Cascades West Innovation Hub Ecosystem Partner Showcase & Simulation Event” at the Ford Alumni Center on the U of O campus. The logistics were handled by Collaborative Economic Development Oregon (EDALC’s equivalent in Lane County), though the EDALC team did help to refine and dial-in the simulation exercise. This week, Business Oregon released their guidelines for the next biennium’s Innovation Hub funding program – EDALC is participating in several meetings next week to explore the best lead applicant for our region. Stacie wrote and submitted our April project report.
      • ROI Video Project – Sarah continued coordination with the TZOM crew about filming the “No Wrong Place to Start” video later this month.
      • YEP – Sarah worked on the Youth Entrepreneurship Program pitch event logistics. Please join us at this awesome event next Wednesday the 7th at the Lincoln City Cultural Center at 5:30pm! Here is the link to the eventbrite page: tinyurl.com/2025YEP
  • Broadband
      • BEAD – There is still no official word from DC on any pause or changes to the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program (though it is certainly anticipated), so regional parties are working on their applications and pulling in support letters (any application must have support letters from at least 50% of its governmental organizations). Paul has been working with the Economic Development District staff and CWEDD Executive Committee to stay on top of those support letter requests.
  • Core Economic Development Services
      • Oregon Prospector – Sarah updated listings on Oregon Prospector and added new ones.
  • Community Connecting
  • Take Action Lincoln County: 2025 Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow SponsorshipThis week, EDALC continued along the marketing timeline plan Stacie and Leslie made with CTSI PIO Andy Taylor and CAO Lisa Norton back in February. After giving the Siletz News readership the first opportunity to become sponsors during April, Leslie emailed the waiting list of organizations who asked to be notified when the 2025 opportunity was available. Leslie then fixed a hiccup in the payment process, with a big thanks to Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Newport, Oregon, for helping to troubleshoot and for their sponsorship! Various other emails, announcements, and posts will be rolled out over the next few weeks. If you don’t already, please follow EDALC and CTSI on social media to stay updated. Leslie recommends sponsoring soon if you’d like a wide selection of awards to choose from – visit the updated sponsorship portal here and show your alignment and support of CTSI’s Cultural Traditions today: https://takeactionlincolncounty.com/store-2/
      • Latine Mesoamerican Cultural Fest Sponsorship OpportunitiesLeslie is excited to be supporting this event alongside Arcoíris Cultural and many other sponsors, performers, artists, and entrepreneurs! For businesses and organizations seeking to widen their audiences by showing their Cultural Celebration alignment and community impact, please see event details and opportunities in Arcoíris Cultural’s Invitation for Sponsors here.
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication Stacie posted Friday community roundup and shared relevant partner/regional posts on various social media channels throughout the week. She also worked on the Q1 2025 media report.
  • Project Work
        • Stacie updated the project boards for TALC, O2IH website, and CWIH. She also connected with the venue (Primaltones) on food and drink logistics for the annual board meeting.
  • Admin
      • Paul worked to refine the draft FY25-26 budget.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you!

Cheers,

-The EDALC Team (Paul, Sarah, Leslie and Stacie)
