Happy Nearly-Spooky-October Friday!

(Paul here for this paragraph) I just wanted to start off with an awesome round of high-fives and very loud Huzzahs! to the EDALC team for their amazing work at last night’s highly-successful Fail Fest! Sarah crafted the charcuterie boards, the event slide deck and shot videos. Stacie organized the rabble into a functioning team, served as greeter and senior logistics officer. Leslie organized the crochet artist goodies, managed the “Entrepreneurial Wisdom” board, anonymous Fails submissions (and shared them with the crowd), the EDALC info table and worked the crowd. I just got to wear my red pants and talk about bees!

Thanks to our wonderful, honest and open speakers and to our board members who could make it – and a special shout out to Jason who did an amazing job as the event emcee – thank you so much!

(now back to team-talk) In the World’s Fastest Grant Turnaround (™), the EDALC team submitted their invited $15,000 grant proposal to Northwest Oregon Works – entitled “Supporting the Creative Economy and Community Art to Improve Local Economic Vitality – A Lincoln County Playbook.” It was a true collaborative grant writing process and we had full approval from NOW in less than ten minutes! Invoice for payment has already been sent out.

Here’s our team weekly update:

    • Partner Support/Community Support
  • Newport Chamber of Commerce – On Wednesday, Paul presented at the Newport Chamber lunch on EDALC – both the organization and our current and near-future efforts.
  • NOW – Team drafted and submitted “Supporting the Creative Economy and Community Art to Improve Local Economic Vitality – A Lincoln County Playbook” proposal, and received approval for $15,000 project grant from Northwest Oregon Works on Thursday.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
      • YBEF – This week’s Yaquina Bay Economic Foundation meeting (at the Rogue Bayfront Public House) continued the NOAA conversation with some welcome and very knowledgeable insights from former longtime YBEF member John Lavrakas (he sent a response to Representative Gomberg and cc-ed Paul on it – that’s how the conversation started).
      • North Pacific Consulting – Paul met with Fletcher Conn of NorPac to discuss four potential consulting projects that fit within EDALC’s Blue Economy scope of work – they’ll reconnect next week to drill down further.
      • DACUM – Paul, Mark Farley and Dan Lara (OCCC) met today with Terri Johnson of Worldwide Instructional Design Systems to take a second stab at designing a modified DACUM (Designing A CUrriculuM) process for a stackable suite of maritime technician credentials.
  •  O2IH website RFP –  Stacie fielded inquiries, and shared the request with two more local vendors identified as a potential fit by the Newport Chamber of Commerce.
      • CCFW – Sarah attended a CCFW executive committee meeting.
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Fail Fest – Much of the week was dedicated to coordinating, packing, and executing Fail Fest 2024. SO much of the week!
        • A short email that came in from Jalene Case today: “A quick note on last night. Wow! What an amazing event! You and your whole team do such a magnificent job creating an inspiring, learning experience for us entrepreneurs! Thank you!”
  • Core Economic Development Services
  • Oregon Prospector Sarah updated Oregon Prospector listings and checked old ones to make sure they were still active.
  • Lincoln County Economic Report Update – Sarah and Paul met with Shannon Davis and Hans Radke of The Research Group to review the scope of the economic report project and some modifications to the timeline. Planning work will commence soon, with the main project work being done January through April.
  • Community Connecting
  • Last week, Leslie was on a coastal workshop facilitation tour to Tillamook, Newport, and Port Orford. She met and reconnected with folks serving all types of roles in funding, stewarding, and supplying drinking water for communities of all sizes and situations along the coast. Presentation topics focused on forested watershed planning, acquisition, stewardship, and partnerships, which were the most requested topics after February’s workshop series. The positive ripple effects of this series continue to show. In November, Leslie and the planning team will work on debriefing, compiling attendance reports, and reviewing participant feedback to build our next workshops. After her return from next week’s conference in Louisiana, Leslie will edit and upload last week’s presentations and Q&A sessions to EDALC’s Drinking Water Protection Playlist: http://tinyurl.com/orcoastdswpworkshops
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication
        • Stacie promoted the Fall newsletter on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, and completed the Friday community roundup.
  • Project Work
      • Economic Vitality Report Card – Sarah organized some of the data from her and Sam’s research into a draft report.

Reminder: Our November EDALC Board of Directors meeting (via Zoom) will be on November 7th at 3:30pm.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you!
