Greetings and welcome to a damp Friday! It’s atmospheric river time (that sounds like the name of a country song)!
The Fall newsletter went out Wednesday afternoon. If you haven’t had a chance to read it you can find it here.
Starting on Sunday, the Oregon Economic Development Association’s annual conference will take place at Salishan. On Sunday, Paul is one of the instructors during the day-long Business Retention and Expansion course (part of the Oregon Certified Economic Developer program). The main conference sessions and annual awards banquet are on Monday, followed by “Adventure Day” on Tuesday (please help send energy to keep the rain gods away!), which was coordinated by the EDALC team.
Our “Adventure Day” stops include:

- A custom Shop the Dock experience from Angee Doeer at Port Dock 5
- Exploring the Pacific Maritime Heritage Museum

- CCFW – Sarah attended an executive committee meeting for the Central Coast Food Web.
- CWEDD – Sarah filmed an interview with Jason Ogden, the City Manager and Chief of Police for the City of Sweet Home at their City Hall to continue key interviews for the CWEDD video. She also coordinated additional interviews for next week.
- Lincoln City Brownfields – On Monday, Paul trekked to Lincoln City for the quarterly meeting of the Brownfields Advisory Committee. This time, the committee met at a commercial property (a repurposed old gas station) undergoing a Phase Two environmental evaluation to see the process in action – ground coring, ground water testing and under foundation gas contaminant testing. This is all part of a multi-year EPA grant that Lincoln City received.
- City of Newport – Paul participated in a fourth Zoom interview for Newport’s new Economic Mobility Manager position. Next week, finalists will be on site for in person interviews.
- OCCC/LCSD – Becky York, the new Career Connected Learning (CCL) director at OCCC has relaunched the CCL lunch program this month (occurring in both Waldport and Toledo). Paul was the inaugural speaker at Waldport High School this week, presenting an overview of working in the game development industry and what skills are required and how to evaluate the “to college or not to college?” question.
- OEDA Annual Conference – Stacie designed the Adventure Day flyer including a google map and parking guidance for the 100 or so folks expected to participate. and we used our Thursday team meeting to finalize our tour guide/people wrangling strategy. - OCVA’s People’s Coast Summit and Keynote Panel Presentation in Reedsport – Thanks to the Oregon Coast Visitors Association team, event sponsors, and the Reedsport & Winchester Bay communities, for another incredible example of bringing folks together to inspire and cultivate tourism industry collaboration over competition. See the full agenda of keynote and breakout topics here. Leslie presented the story and rationale behind takeactionlincolncounty.com on the “Gathering with Purpose” Keynote Panel alongside Lisa Norton, Alanna Kieffer, and Kim Cooper Findling. She received positive feedback on the concepts and take-home tips the panel shared, and Leslie hopes her lens inspired more communities to build their own understanding of what’s already existing in their community to find ways to expand participation in, support of, and enhance the mutual benefits of existing Cultural community events and opportunities. Throughout the summit, Leslie also made a point of connecting folks with aligned work areas and interests, including sharing some Coastal Hazard resources from SeaGrant with Reedsport representatives. She looks forward to weaving in lessons learned and new connections with her work and networks, and she is already looking forward to next year’s gathering, which may return to our county. In the meantime, while folks are at home hunkering down from the rain, Leslie recommends enjoying an event highlight from award-winning filmmaker, artist, and keynote speaker, Devin Boss, creator of What We Lost Along the Way, a short film highlighting the healing and inspiring qualities along the Central Oregon Coast.

There will be some tasty treats, plus also some Pacific Sourdough bread for those who make the trek! Cheers,
