Greetings and welcome to yet another sunny and chilly Friday – wow, seeing that blue sky is a treat! Part of the team is going to the Big Blue Film Festival opening tonight at the Gladys Valley Marine Studies building at Hatfield – hope to see some of you there!

This week was Stacie’s second full week as a full-timer, and we can all already “feel” the increased capacity to do good work for our organization!

Let’s get right to it – here’s our weekly team update:

    • Partner Support/Community Support
  • City of Yachats – For Leslie’s awesome work with Yachats, see the Community Connecting section below. Paul prepared and sent over the scope document for EDALC’s facilitated community engagement budget game that will be happening in April.
  • Northwest Oregon Works – Both Paul and new EDALC Director Marshall Roache presented at today’s quarterly NOW Board of Directors meeting. Marshall gave an update on the state of the OCCC (spoiler alert: it’s great!) and Paul talked about what EDALC’s been doing over the past year – when Paul last addressed the board.
  • Blue Economy/O2IH
      • McClean Point Incubator – This week, Fletcher Conn (Principal at NorPac Consulting – a firm hired by EDALC out of CDS funds) met with Evan Hall (Rondy’s Inc.) to view their McClean Point property and to begin pulling in some information for a Blue Economy business incubator feasibility study.
      • O2IH Website – Paul and Stacie reviewed the layout and sent Shawn feedback. Stacie aggregated blue economy resources to support content creation.
      • DACUM Process – On Wednesday, the core team behind the DACUM process for “Aquaculture Technician” (the first of two DACUMs EDALC is funding) met to go over the logistical details of the process – the key activity is a three hour virtual session with industry subject matter experts (SMEs) to define the duties and tasks of the job – that will likely happen in early April.
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Cascades West Innovation Hub – Paul met with Susan Patterson to discuss EDALC assistance on a Cascades West Council of Governments’ SBA Growth Accelerator Grant Application which would provide gap funding for the hub. Next week we will be providing a 90 second video narrative about the innovation hub to support the application. Stacie wrote the January project report and did a deep dive into the planning stage recommendations.
  • Core Economic Development Services
  • Lincoln County Economic Report Update Project Paul and Sarah met with Shannon and Hans from The Research Group to officially kick off the update of the Lincoln County economic report.
      • Community & Economic Development Grant Program – In one of the February Board of Commissioners meetings, Paul will present EDALC’s funding recommendations. Paul has also communicated with Administrator Johnson, Commissioner Jacobson and Lola Jones at Samaritan House about our Board’s questions on one of the grant application – answers should be coming next week.
  • Oregon ProspectorSarah added some new listings onto Oregon Prospector and checked old ones.
  • Economic SummitSarah worked on the pillars of the local economy videos and did some additional video interviews. She also worked on coordination of speakers, municipal representatives, and resource tables. In addition, she continued to work on the Lincoln County Civic Lexicon.
  • Community Connecting
      • Yachats State of the City Collaborative Social HourWithin 24 hour notice, Leslie and Yachats City Manager, Bobbi Price, pulled together a gathering of a few Yachats Community Organization leads (View the Future, OCVA, Yachats Chamber, and Lisa Norton in continuation of Take Action Lincoln County partner efforts). Leslie was grateful everyone was willing to make the last minute invite work to discuss and plan a social hour mingling opportunity to follow Bobbi’s State of the City Presentation. The group enjoyed some divergent brainstorming around concepts of inviting the community to learn more about the collaborative community efforts and volunteer opportunities that contribute to making Yachats the Gem of the Oregon Coast. The group narrowed ideas down to concepts that are attainable within two short weeks (and added the other great ideas to a list to build upon in future years). Short story long, Leslie’s looking forward to rolling out some creative concepts at Yachats’ State of the City in early February! Stay tuned to the City of Yachats communications and Social Media for more details on the event
      • See Leslie’s full Weekly Update here: January 24, 2025 EDALC CC Weekly Report
  • Organizational Management
  • Marketing & Communication – Stacie boosted partner posts across all platforms throughout the week. The Winter 2025 newsletter is 90% complete and we will hit send next week.
  • Admin – Stacie added a team work session to the calendar. This meeting will occur biweekly on alternate weeks from the existing biweekly team meeting.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Keep us posted if you have anything you want us to share, and don’t be stingy with your ideas – we love hearing from you! Have a wonderful holiday!!

Cheers,

-The EDALC Team (Paul, Sarah, Leslie and Stacie)
