Paul’s week:

Meet and Greets – Another week of some solid hours on Zoom (have any of us bought stock in that company yet?), growing my local and regional network. I met with Micah Elconin, who is a food and beverage sector strategist working in Lane County and Bend (he’s going to do a little research on food manufacturing in Lincoln County to see if there are any opportunities there). I had the privilege of meeting and talking with a number of local mayors this week including John Moore (Yachats), Susan Woodruff (Waldport – she actually dropped by the office!) and Dick Anderson (Lincoln City – we met at the Salishan Marketplace). Chris Chandler and I reconnected, and got caught up. I also got to spend an hour with Karl Mundorff deep diving into the OSU Advantage Accelerator.

Our New Website – So work came at me hard and fast this week (in the form of a giant spreadsheet – see below), so I didn’t get as far on the site as I wanted this week, but I was able to configure some new plugins and had a phone meeting with photographer Colin Park (thanks for the connection Michael!) who is allowing us to use some of his amazing landscape photography and drone videos for the site. I received an initial dump of images and was able to get those into our “hero” slideshow on the front page.

Business Attraction – We had a very productive meeting at the OCCC campus in Lincoln City on Thursday with two folks who are doing their due diligence as they are evaluating purchasing all the domestic car dealerships in Newport to ramp up their profitability. In attendance was myself, Dave Price, Alison Robertson, Dave Anderson, Judy Kuhl and Representative Gomberg (it was in Lincoln City due to their logistics and they are evaluating the entire county and region as their market).

Trail Grant Year One Additions – I sent off the plan to do a pivot (more of an addition than a pivot) to the year one trail grant deliverables that Jesse Dolin and I put together to Commissioner Hunt. I’m waiting to hear back on his perception of this addition: does it fit within the overall scope and do we need any additional permissions to press on?

Other Projects and Efforts – I had a long working meeting with Racheal Maddox-Hughes to get me up to speed on the Maritime Innovation Center grant application and the Toledo Arts District project and how we can collaborate together (we’ll be doing a walking tour of Toledo on September 10th). I also has a meeting with Alexandria Scott of the Mid Coast Water Planning Partnership to get some context on their planning process to date.

Lincoln County Strategic Planning (inputs on priorities) – I was able to finish a revision of the input process document that I’ve been working on with Greg Wolf and got that off to him. We are both scheduled to meet with Commissioner Hunt (via Zoom) on September 11th. I also started to pull together a “straw” invite list to the anticipated sessions and reached out to Wayne Belmont for his thoughts on the subject as well.

Commercial Landlord Project – Dave Price pulled together the postcard we are going to send out to the commercial landlords and we worked through a few revisions. I received some additional data from Alison at Lincoln City and we ended up with a rather cumbersome, messy and unwieldy spreadsheet of close to 2,500 addresses. I was able to cull out duplicates to get it down to about 1,200 and am working through the spreadsheet line by line (no way to batch automate the process – believe me, I tried!) getting it into a mail-merge-friendly format to send to the postcard printer. Got it all combed through just before quitting’ time, but I’ll review it again first of the week – so we’re getting there. Should have that off to Dave by late Monday.

New Business Cards – Last week, I finished up the design of my new business card and Suzan got it printed – two sided and it looks great with the new logo – see attached image (actual card is on white – looks a little blue from my iPhone pic). I’d pass out the cards at our next board meeting, but hard to do on Zoom – hence the pic. 🙂

Reminder: We have the September EDALC Board of Directors meeting next Thursday (9/3) from 3:30-5pm via Zoom. We’ll have a few more materials going out to the board on Tuesday, and I’ll resend the Zoom into out on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and wear those masks!

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
