Greetings and welcome to Friday! April has just Zoomed by!
Here’s our EDALC update for the week:
====
Sarah’s Update:
This week began by diving into the ART Toledo website to look for what needed updating and edits. I also worked on IEDW marketing and filmed my interview with Casey for the EDALC video. Afterwards I worked on the MailChimp ad for IEDW that was sent out Thursday morning. On Wednesday, I continued to work on the MailChimp ad and the ART Toledo website.
I also made some updates and new additions to the EDALC website and created our EDALC meet-and-greet event on Facebook. At the end of my week, I attended the ART Toledo meeting and walked around Main Street to take pictures of the Phantom Galleries to add to the website, if you haven’t seen the new mural definitely go check it out! Afterwards, I made more updates to the website based on requests from that meeting.

Paul’s Update:
Blue Economy – Next Tuesday, Mark Farley and I will be trekking to Corvallis for a planning meeting with Rachael Maddock-Hughes to finish laying out our preliminary project outline for the incoming congressionally-directed funding.
Economic Development Week (May 9-13) – We managed to get a number of video shoots this week, plus another pair scheduled for next week, for an awesome “All about EDALC and local economic development” video that we’re putting together with Casey Felton, the News-Times videographer. That’ll debut the second week in May. Sarah and I also nailed down plans for our event at COVE (we’ll discuss details next week), and I submitted my kick-off bi-weekly economic development newspaper column that will launch next week.
ART Toledo – The first major mural in Toledo is complete! The artist will return for touch up and final sealing in May, but it is AMAZING! If you are in Toledo, be sure to check it out (at the north entrance to Main Street). What a great piece of public art!
PACWave – In the last two weeks, I attended two presentations on the PACWave project – I knew about the project from a 40,000 ft altitude, but it was awesome to really learn about the nitty gritty of how it’s being put together and just how challenging it is to blend R&D, environmental consciousness and federal permitting into a single project. I walked away amazed!
CWEDD – What do they say about never volunteering? It looks like I’m in line to be selected as the vice-chair for the Cascades West Economic Development District. Honestly, it’ll be an honor to serve something so closely aligned with our work. Kate Porsche (Benton County ED) put my name forth, and as penance, I’ve extracted from her a commitment to take me out for some good wine in Corvallis. Quid pro quo.
LCSD Leadership Event – Last night, Karen and the LCSD school board held their annual leadership gathering. What a great event and I was amazed at the sense of an entire community rowing in the same direction. There was not a dry eye in the house when Director Senitila McKinley talked about it not only “taking a village” but that we all had to be the villagers and own our community. Hats off to Karen and her team! Also, this week, it seems like Birgitte, Lesley and I were joined at the hip – SO many meetings together, but all VERY enjoyable and productive!
OCCCC – Next week, I’ll have the honor of facilitating an OCCC All Managers Group brainstorming session at the college – to help the senior staff brainstorm and refine core concepts at the heart of their developing strategic plan. So looking forward to it!
Brain Dump – I spent much of this morning with Matt Friesen (Senator Anderson’s Chief of Staff) in Lincoln City, giving him a brain dump on Lincoln County economic development and coastal Blue Economy efforts. He even said he’d steal my “asset quilting” term to describe much of our work locally and regionally.
EDALC Executive Committee – Our Executive Committee met this week (thanks fro all or taking the time!) and came away with a potential slate of EDALC officers for the next fiscal year (that we’ll discuss next week and vote on in June). It’ll be an honor and a privilege to work with the new officers and the entire board over the upcoming fiscal year. Here’s the slate:
President – Birgitte
Past President – Tracy
Vice President – Bob
Secretary – Lesley
Treasurer – Michael
At-Large – Carrie
At-Large – Karen

Tomorrow, I’ll be showing off our Hyundai Ionic EV at the PUD’s Drive Electric Earth Day event and then trekking down to Waldport to do a set of old-school blues (starting at 3:30) at their Beach, Bike & Blues Festival – we’ll see what the Oregon weather gods have in store!
As promised, I’ve attached a pic of our completed kitchen project – it’s a before and after collage – also called “Taking the 80s out of our kitchen!”
Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
-Paul 🙂
