Greetings and welcome to an early update!

Sarah is generally off on Friday, and I’m taking tomorrow off to celebrate Susan’s birthday with her, so here we go…

Here’s our EDALC update for the week:

Sarah’s Update:

This week started off with posting on our Facebook page about the Oregon & the Blue economy panel discussion that Paul is participating in. Afterwards I finished formatting the funding brochure to be ready for Economic Development Week. The rest of the day I wrote up the notes from last Thursday’s board meeting. On Wednesday, I worked on a draft of an executive summary of the 2019 External Environmental Scan for OCCC.

Paul and I also met with Jeremy at the News-Times about EDW and made some event and media release plans! That prompted the creation of a larger EDW task list that I am continually trying to knock out as soon as possible. At the end of my week, I attended the ART Toledo meeting and continued working on the executive summary. I also updated the entrepreneurial opportunities slider on our website and added a couple new events. Later, I listened to the Oregon & the Blue economy panel discussion Thursday evening!

Paul’s Update:

Blue Economy – I was able to attend a great update presentation today on the PAC Wave project – I learned so much! During the SBDC event (see below), Mark Farley shared some great information of a Yaquina River brownfield site that might be ripe for just the right kind of development. This evening, I’ll be joining a panel at the Lincoln City Cultural Center on the Blue Economy – it’s both an in-person and a virtual event run by the RAIN Blue Economy Catalyst Connor Nolan.

SBDC Director Networking – I was fortunate to get an invite from Dave Price for a networking event – the state SBDC director and many regional directors were in town and they chartered the Marine Discovery Tours vessel for an evening cruise on the river on Tuesday. It was great to meet (in the flesh) some SBDC directors I’d only seen on Zoom, and I had some time to catch up with Representative Gomberg (who took one for the team and kissed a rockfish head for the event) and Senator Anderson. We were also treated to some awesome fresh Oregon pink shrimp salsa!

Creativity in the Workplace – This week I presented a “lite” version (tastes great, less filling!) version of my Creativity Boot Camp presentation, focusing on creativity in the workplace, to this year’s Leadership Lincoln class. This was a practice run for two longer sessions I’m running next week (one in Lincoln City and one in Newport) as part of the OCCC’s community ed program.

Lincoln City – I presented an EDALC update at Monday’s Lincoln City council meeting. I was able to give an overview of our recent work, strategic priorities, involvement with regional economic development and then I spent some time looking forward to ways we could add capacity to Lincoln City in the next fiscal year. After my presentation, Alison Robinson added her comments on just how vital EDALC is as an economic development partner. I also received word from Alison today that Lincoln City’s proposed FY 2022-23 budget has $25,000 for EDALC included.

Economic Development Week – Sarah and I met with Jeremy Burke at the News-Times this week, as you read from her update. We’ll nail down the event plan next week, but we’ll have use of the COVE space for the event. He’ll also provide some filing and production time of his video ninja, Casey, to help us pull something together. We also talked about the possibility of working with them to brine a RARE person in to provide training and marketing support for creative economy solo-preneurs.

ART Toledo – The first major mural as part of the downtown mural program starts up tomorrow (weather permitting) – with the majority of the painting tomorrow. I’ll be on the old car dealership building at the north side of mainstream. The artist is Jeremy Nichols, one of the artists from the Portland Street Art Alliance. You can check out his amazing work here: https://www.plasticbirdie.com/

As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:
