Greetings and welcome to Friday! Be sure to dodge those velella velella if you head out to the beach this weekend!

Here’s our staff update for this week:

Blue Economy::

This week, we wrapped up the signing of two subgrant agreements. The first is with OCVA, to support their coast-wide high-school seafood butchery training program. The other is with Colpac (the north coast economic development district) to perform a study to create a framework to advance the regular, comprehensive consolidation of Blue Economy metrics and establish recommendations for supporting the Blue Economy in Northwest Oregon. We’re very excited to get these both of these projects rolling! – Paul

Broadband::

This week, we wrapped up our project to reel in letters of support for Pioneer Cooperative’s Broadband Deployment Program application (being submitted in a little over a week). Thanks so much to the Directors I reached out to for their support on this effort!! – Paul

Community Connecting::

Leslie was out in full force this week, with much more that she or I can summarize in just a few sentences, so please check out her complete (and awesome) online report. Here’s the link:

Creative Economies::

Paul, Stacie and I attended the ART Toledo meeting Thursday morning and reviewed the designs for the upcoming sensory mural on the side of the library! – Sarah

Entrepreneurship::

We hosted the Business is Brewing webinar Tuesday morning, and I learned about the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network and what resources they offer. – Sarah

Events::

I met with Kelliane and Michele at Hatfield to look over the space and do more planning for the YEP Pitch event! – Sarah

Marketing & Communication::

On Monday, Sarah and I met with Richard Wright to talk through some video production ideas. Greg and the SBDC is funding some video work to help tell the EDALC story and also to hit home the message “there is no wrong place to start” for a Lincoln County businesses when seeking information and support. Thanks Greg!! – Paul

Paul and I are going to brainstorm some of the organization’s best stories for one or more of Richard’s videos. I also worked on the spring newsletter. – Sarah

Had discussions with team to clarify our expectations around organization acknowledgement from partners and EDALC support recipients (whether monetary or otherwise) via social media, press releases, events etc. Began working on a media toolkit for the website and will be crafting some boilerplate language for use in future contracts. Conversely will be fleshing out what supporting organizations can expect from us in this space. Continued to increase EDALC connections on LinkedIn and Instagram. Started bugging teammates about providing content during and after upcoming events – Stacie

Organizational Development::

This week, I set up our new checking account to receive our Ford Family Foundation grant funds (which we should have next week). I also moved our cash reserves from a zero interest account into a pretty good (5%+) business savings account (still fully liquid). I also got us set up to be able to receive ACH funds from the State of Oregon – for the incoming ROI grant funds. We also started up our regular full team check-in meetings yesterday afternoon, and Stacie kept us on track and took great notes! – Paul

Got up to speed re: our options in Monday.com and completed cleanup/reorganization of past and current work. I am creating a new Active Project board for the team to review and we’ll refine it with the goals of providing consistent visibility, clarifying our work “buckets”, and supporting more efficient collaboration. Started work on internal brand guidelines with Sarah’s help. – Stacie

Project Work::

I updated the opportunities for entrepreneurs slider on the EDALC website, added a new webpage for Community Connector resources, and updated Oregon Prospector listings. – Sarah

Supporting Partners::

Career Connected Learning – On Tuesday, I presented at the Career Connected learning lunch series for Waldport high-school students. I talked about how to take the first steps to get started in a career in game development. We had a packed house! I was also able to reach out (last weekend) to some of my fellow developers and designers in the Game Designers Workshop professional group to get their sage advice. They came through big time, and I was able to put together a handout with some amazing career advice from some of the most senior and respected folks in the industry. – Paul

OCCC – We had our second pre-apprenticeship program steering committee meeting this week, and had an opportunity to view the two curriculum tracks (both starting in September) and discuss program marketing to reach the targeted student populations. – Paul

Upcoming::

Next Wednesday afternoon, I’ll be participating in the Newport City Manager finalists interview process, as part of the Community Leaders panel. Today, I submitted a few interview questions to the search consultant team. Looks like Carrie will be joining me on that panel and Paula will be on the Public Administrators panel. – Paul

Later in the week, Leslie and I will be trekking to the Regards to Rural conference (https://rdiinc.org/r2r/) at the Three Rivers Convention Center in WA’s Tri-Cities. – Paul

As a reminder – your Board of Directors resource page is here:

I’ll be out on Monday to celebrate Susan’s birthday – whenever possible, we both try to take the day off and have some fun together (and try not to get into too much trouble!).

Thanks for ALL that you are doing out there! Please reach out to me if you need anything at all. Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,

-Paul 🙂
